Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) statement on the political violence in Epworth

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) statement on the political violence in Epworth

The Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) condemns in the strongest terms possible the political violence that rocked Epworth recently when ZANU-PF supporters disrupted an MDC-T rally on Sunday, May 4. Supporters of both parties sustained injuries as result of the skirmishes. CiZC has confirmed reports that police arrested 8 people in connection with the violence and alleged bombing of a ZANU PF official’s house.

CiZC calls upon the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to professionally, impartially and independently conduct further investigations and arrest those responsible regardless of political affiliation. Political parties must never resort to use of violence and intimidation as a means to settle political differences. Political parties must display tolerance and non-violence in conformity with the constitutional values of a multi-party democracy that Zimbabwe ascribes to. Political violence has no place in Zimbabwe, and political leaders should jointly and collectively ensure that political violence is eradicated from our society.

It is imperative for all Zimbabweans to respect the constitution which gives every political party a right to hold its rallies at a given time and venue in accordance with the law.
