Free political activity, under arrest"¦as rallies and public gatherings are constantly disrupted by police action and inaction.

With the European union taking firm steps towards reducing their targeted measures on Zimbabwe, and with the clock fast ticking towards a referendum and elections, we argue that in spite of progress made, one element that is celebrated as being subject to some progress, freedom, continues to be under arrest in Zimbabwe. There is a case for this that can be made around long incarcerations, unjustified detentions, continued politically motivated harassment, and continued clamp downs on civil disobedience, but here we just catalogue the arresting of free political activity, itself a key element in terms of implementation of the global political agreement. Ironically, the biggest victims in respect of this have been the political parties in government, who have also convinced the E.U. that all is well and moving progressively in Zimbabwe.

Below is a table with the rallies and other political activities that we recall being hindered or disrupted in 2011 and 2012
