MDC officials arrested
On Saturday the 25 February 2012 police in Gwanda and Beitbridge provinces stormed the MDC-T provincial offices of the respective areas where national trainings on the roles and responsibilities of the political party and its structures organized by the national organizing department were taking place.
Police immediately stopped the proceedings and accused the facilitators and provincial leadership of contravening the Public Order and Security Act which implores organizers of public gatherings to seek police clearance. 3 MDC trainers Claris Madhuku, Godfrey Koster and Sally Mlambo and 3 district chairpersons spent the weekend at Gwanda Police Station. They were only released today, 27 February with no charges leveled against them after the area Public Prosecutor failed to find grounds reasonable for prosecution.
It was a different case altogether in Beitbridge where the National Education and Training Coordinator, Farai Chinobva and National Trainer, Islam Madhosi and others were brought before the courts today to answer to charges of contravening the notorious POSA. They have not yet been awarded bail. According to the MDC, the meetings were internal which attracted exclusively only the leadership from district to ward level of the MDC.
